NSW Marine Estate Management Strategy

The NSW Marine Estate Management Strategy (MEMS) is a ten-year NSW Government program working to protect and enhance the health of our coast, estuaries and ocean for current and future generations. Through partnerships between numerous NSW government agencies, researchers, industry, Aboriginal communities and local stakeholders, MEMS delivers practical actions that support healthy marine ecosystems, sustainable use of marine resources and thriving coastal communities. The Strategy addresses key challenges facing the marine estate, including water quality, marine wildlife conservation, climate change, habitat protection, sustainable fishing and aquaculture, and safe, sustainable boating. It supports research, monitoring, education and community engagement to improve our understanding and management of the marine environment. By balancing environmental, social, cultural and economic values, MEMS helps ensure NSW’s marine estate remains a place where people can boat, fish, swim, explore and connect with nature while safeguarding the coast and sea for generations to come.
